My role

  • Co-built the C#/.NET automation framework from scratch with another QA lead, working as peers across the engagement.
  • Covered the product at three layers: database validation, API testing, and functional UI testing.
  • Implemented roughly 189 requirement-based API tests, including functional behavior, RBAC and JSON-schema validation.
  • Built English/French localization automation that covered every application screen.

Technical challenges

  • The complete application and automation environment had to run locally, requiring a long sequence of Visual Studio, application, database and migration setup steps.
  • The localization suite navigated every screen and compared rendered text with expected JSON values. A full automated run took about 40 minutes; the equivalent manual review would take roughly 2–3 days.
  • Medical translations required more than checking for missing strings: incorrect medication wording, English fallbacks, untranslated dropdown options and placeholder mismatches all had to be caught.

My approach

My QA partner and I built the automation foundation together rather than extending a finished framework. My API layer used NUnit and RestSharp to validate requirement-based workflows, permissions and response schemas, with database checks where backend state also mattered. Medical-device integration was exercised remotely through the APIs rather than through physical hardware.

For UI coverage, we automated functional flows and release regression. My localization suite used Selenium to visit every screen and compare rendered English and French text with the expected JSON data. We ran the local suites before releases after completing the full application and database setup.

Pass rate at delivery
  • The full localization regression ran in about 40 minutes before releases, replacing an estimated 2–3 days of manual screen-by-screen checking.
  • The suites exposed API, RBAC, database, functional UI and translation defects, including incorrect medication wording. The defects were fixed and successfully retested.
  • The final test cycle reached a 95% pass rate. The application and the automation framework were delivered and accepted.
